Preparing to move in

While the conveyancing process is under way, it's time for you to prepare for the move. Effort spent planning and packaging things carefully at this stage will be rewarded on moving day and in the days after you've moved.

However, bear in mind that until contracts are exchanged, no legal agreement exists and either side can pull out of the sales process.

Consider that at least one month before the proposed moving day you will need to appoint a removal firm or hire a vehicle (if you wish to move yourself) and arrange for storage should you need to.

Get quotes from two or three local removal firms and compare not only their price, but check they are licensed and insured and provide packing materials (if you need them). You should set up new accounts for your utilities and, if required, arrange for postal redirection with Royal Mail (www.royalmail.com).
