Preparing to move out
On the day of completion, you will probably have your thoughts occupied with your onward move but it is as vital that you ensure your move out goes smoothly as it is that the arrangements for moving on are complete and that you know your new venue will be ready for you.
There are some responsibilities you will need to address for the people moving in. There can be penalties if you fail to vacate the property you are leaving in time. Minutes, or even hours, rushing around while the new owners and all their worldly goods wait outside on the pavement, can be highly nerve-wracking.
On moving day you will be required to vacate the house by a specified time and to hand over any spare keys so it's best to make sure you have packed and made-ready as many of your posessions as possible.
it's a good idea to speak to the estate agents and solicitors involved to help you coordinate the moving day.
Don't forget to take gas, electricity and water meter readings (as applicable) from the property you leave and enter.
It's a nice idea to pack the kettle, tea and coffee and a flask of milk last in a separate box so this is the first thing to come out when you arrive at your new destination with a lot of work ahead of you.
